Objectives

The general objective of the project PREFABRI-CO2 is to contribute to the mitigation of climate change via the development of new alternatives for the capture and recovery of industrial CO2 in the curing of precast concrete elements in six complementary ways:

1

Study and proposal of new CO2-capturing materials with reversible adsorption-desorption capable of trapping carbon from gas streams from large industrial emission sources (cement plants, biomass energy production plants) for its subsequent release and recovery in the curing of non-structural precast concrete products).

Study and proposal of new CO2 adsorbents with irreversible adsorption-desorption compatible with cement for their incorporation into concrete of precast elements that would act as carbon sinks.

2

3

Curing and carbonation in a CO2 atmosphere of precast mass concrete elements to which non-reversible adsorbents have been incorporated (carbon sink and CO2 recovery).

Use of recycled aggregates from construction and demolition waste with a higher carbonation capacity than natural aggregates (circular economy).

4

5

Use of non-compliant fly ash from thermoelectric plants to reduce cement consumption (circular economy).

Use of carbonated water in the mixing to accelerate the setting of the cement and increase the mechanical and durability properties.
